Dear EG Bank valued customers,

Given the importance of information security in protecting business data from loss, tampering and leakage, and since securing information is the responsibility of all Egyptian Gulf Bank employees, the Information Security team issued this security awareness bulletin to highlight the most important information security risks and how to deal with and address them.

Today we are raising awareness for one of the most important and common information security risks which is called Phishing.

What is phishing?

It is for the hacker to impersonate a person from a sovereign or internal/external supervisory authority and send you an email in which he asks you for confidential information (such as a password), or asks that you read or download the attached file.

Example: That the hacker impersonates an engineer from the IT help desk team or customer service representative and sends you an email stating that there will be significant changes to the system, please send your username and/or password.

Proactive defense! , what should you do?

  • Watch carefully for email senders that use suspicious or misleading or fake domain names (like ahmed@eg_bank.com or mohamed@g00gle, kindly note the word g00gle where the right one is google. also note the word eg_bank where the right one is eg-bank).

  • Don’t click on links or attachments from senders that you do not recognize or not expect to receive email from it. Be especially wary of .zip or other compressed or executable file type

  • Do not provide sensitive personal information (like usernames and passwords) over email especially if the mail has an urgent tone to send the requested information.
